Documentation / Scans

Why did my scan find nothing?

A scan showing zero mentions across every question usually means one of a small number of real things, not a broken scan. Check these in order.

You are genuinely new to the category

If your company is young, narrowly named, or has published little that an AI engine's training or retrieval could have picked up, a low or zero score is an accurate reading, not a bug. This is the most common reason, and it is the reason the product exists: the report's fixes are what change it.

Geo scope was wrong

A local business scored against national or global buying questions can look invisible when it is actually competing fine in its own market. Recheck geo scope and locations on the scan intake and re-run.

An engine returned no_answer, not zero

An engine refusing to answer, timing out, or returning something the scan could not parse is recorded as no_answer and excluded from scoring, never counted as "did not name you". If you see a row reading "Too few answers to score", that question had fewer than three usable answers, which is a sampling gap, not a finding.

One engine is temporarily unmeasured

TofuBofu queries six engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot. Occasionally one is unreachable end to end (a vendor outage, a provider credential issue on our side) and that engine reports itself unmeasured for the scan rather than silently scoring zero. This never lowers your Index; it shrinks the denominator for that engine only.
